I remember yesterday I saw someone in ascalon advertising about a christian guild. He said that all were welcome and not just christians. I thought having a faith themed guild was a novel idea and more power to the guy for trying it without sounding imposing.

So negative responses, even unfair ones, are to be expected. You need to be aware that often people are lashing out at you because they HURT, and a religion you are associated with caused that hurt. The "Christian" thing to do is to turn the other cheek. And to realize that this is not ALWAYS unjust persecution of God's chosen people. Sometimes it is a reasonable response to a religion that can be really invasive and pushy and hurtful to people.
I have told my many Christian friends that they need to stand up and speak out against people who are hateful in the name of Christianity or else there is going to be a HUGE backlash that very nice Christian people who are NOT bad people are going to get caught up in. I do hate to see this.
I think you are experiencing a tad of that backlash.
And I think you ain't seen nothing yet.

Although this is true, Organized religion is intolerant to a large number of people who really had no choice in the matter nor can they change it. Yes one of my best friends is gay, he’s the most normal acting individual and an amazing friend and guy. I’ve had, many, many Christians look down on him just because he was gay, Without even meeting him. He’s been told that he is going to go to hell all his life, just based purely on his sexuality. I grow tired, tired of people not interpreting their religion for themselves, and being fed years of traditional BULLSHIT of that has been heavily interpreted and sworn as the truth when it may just be an interpretation..
Please, interpret your religion for yourself.

As for 3, start naming wars. I'll even let you start at 0 BC so I start missing a few hundred points as a handicap. Beside each war you list, write the primary cause. I'm pretty sure that you'll find very few were not based in religion, or cultural belief (which in most cases prior to more contemporary times, was *very* closely-bound). I'm also pretty sure you'll find most of those happened within the last hundred years.

Your kidding me? Are you saying Catholic Europe, Sans the Crusades, was just one big love fest?

I'm sure the Red Cross and other like-minded organizations and individuals would love your characterization of their selfless relief efforts as chaotic and barbaric. Perhaps you should step away from the George Carlin for a while.
Just a thought.

I hear you. And yet I am very well aware that the LOUDEST and most VISIBLE people in any religious/political/racial/cultural group are seldom representative of most of the people in that group. It is terribly dangerous to judge any group by its most extreme members.

Haha.. mabey i should.
The Red cross and the National Guard sweep in to prevent the complete loss of social structure. Could you imagine what would happen if they didnt intervene? Looting is just the beggining.

I know you stated that it's not just the GW community reacting like this, but seeing as is this is a free game, it's liable to attract all kinds of people. Even the stupid! You're not trying to impose anything by simply advertising to people of the same interests.
I'm by no means religious, but I couldn't give a care what someone else does with their guild, I mean really. . . :P

I hope you aren't trying to sentimentalise or even commend such policies. The extortion of property only came during the later part of Hitler's reign before the war, anyway and seems more a sidethought he put into action because he could. Jewish properties weren't exactly absorbed by the state, either, but rather ransacked by a hateful public during a state sanctioned pillaging of Jewish properties.
I doubt Hitler was ever a devout Christian. In fact, he regarded it as a threat since it implied a being of greater authority than him. This explains why he created the bastardised Nazi Church. The simple fact is Hitler never mentioned religion as a motivating factor during his speeches, and it would be rather difficult to justify the slaughter of millions upon moral lines.

The Pope seemed to think it would do fine to justify the Crusades
While it wasn't exactly killing unarmed people, it was still slaughter

Funny, I thought they were there to help people in need.
And anyone with as much bias as Carlin can't tell it like it is. He can only tell it as he perceives it, post-filtration. He can be funny and dead on, but he can also be so far in left field he may as well be in the parking lot.

What do you think would happen if the US occupied Mecca and barred moslims from visiting it?

1)All people are biased
2)I am biased, and my views seem to be fairly close to Carlin's. Therefore, his bias is just the same shit I am feeding myself, so it doesn't matter

I write as a non-Christian to welcome the formation of any group with any affiliation requirements imaginable.
We recruit two sorts of people: those whom we know in real life; and those with whom we have partied long enough to know their “character” in-game. (Needless to say, small guild – but very cooperative and supportive anyway.) Really no open recruiting, but no other requirements either.
Does that make us discriminatory? Sure, but it is not like real life when discrimination often accompanies a lack of opportunity. There are so many guilds out there.
Since this is role-playing, like fantasy, like not real, we all recognize that the “all-girls” guilds probably have guys in them and the Christian ones probably have some corrupting heathens in there.
You might as well all at least have or pretend to have something in common from the get-go—that’s better than a lot of PUGs promise you!
